It’s time to throw yourself a party! A big spectacular party with a theme, and decor, and a nice meal, and a good bottle of wine. If you 4th of July barbecued this week, that kind of counts. But my guess is if you worked on Thursday, that Wednesday started to feel like a letdown! Now it’s the weekend, and weekends should be for bonfires, and patio sitting, dinner parties, and sleeping in. Throw yourself a party because it’s July, in the middle of summer, and there’s no better time than the present.
This weekend, my amazing group of friends is celebrating our annual Christmas in July party. It’s an epic, two-day celebration featuring a holiday dinner, tree trimming, a gift exchange, sleepover, “Christmas morning” brunch, and holiday movies. (Ok, holiday movies is loosely defined here. I think last year we watched Michael Bolton’s Big Sexy Valentine’s Day Special.) Last year, our friends got engaged at Christmas in July, and though their future children will be very confused by the pictures someday, it forever solidified Christmas in July as our mid-summer celebration de jour.
So plan yourself a celebration! You deserve it for no other reason than you’re making it through another year.
And speaking of making it through, yesterday’s post on failing spectacularly was one of the most read posts on ink. thus far. Thank you! I hope that it inspired you to look at your own goals and choose to see them through, fearless and regardless of the outcome. Let’s stay in that theme as we head into this weekend. Here are some quick quotes to carry with you as you celebrate, dream, chase, work, play, and live! Here’s hoping you choose to live a little INKspired.
Friday kudos to…
My sister who joined the gINKgo project this week and placed her first notes stretching the gINKgo project to southeastern Wisconsin.
My Kansas BFF who came back to Minnesota for her dad’s retirement party, but carved out a few hours for lunch and brought a belated anniversary present, one of my all time favorite bottles of red wine. It’s currently featured as a “Wine List Extra” on ‘The Wine List’ page.

Wine for your weekend
7 Moons Red Blend – California
7 Moons blends Syrah, Merlot, Petite Sirah, Zinfandel, Cabernet, Malbec, and Grenache, into a smooth, easy to drink table wine that’s fruity with a lingering finish. The best flavor notes of each grape variety come through on the palette with hints of cherry, vanilla, strawberry jam, and milk chocolate. Given its blended nature, this wine is extremely versatile, and pairs well with a wide range of foods. (The back of the bottle even suggests it works well with Chinese Takeout). Fun fact, save your cork! Each one features a different stage of the moon, and there are seven different images that comprise the whole “set.”
