10 things under $25 you’ll want to own pronto

Add to cart.jpgMy 2019 resolution was to curb my personal spending, and I’ve spent much of the new year being very judicious about where my money is going. No more senselessly browsing Amazon. No more random Target runs on my way home from work. Sure, it’s ok to stop for groceries, but I have to do so without making a pit stop in home goods, books, or shoes! It’s been easier than I’ve expected it to be, but that’s mostly been motivated by two key factors. One…any money that I don’t spend from my self imposed “allowance” gets to be put towards home decor and details in the new house, and two…I really like window shopping for home decor and details for the new house. At least for the moment, I am content to make giant Amazon wishlists and Pinterest boards! And from those collections, I’ve come up with these things that will definitely make their way into my life at some point…but could/should make it into yours pronto!

Modern Fashion Watercolor World Map Colorful Burlap Pillowcase – A bright and cheerful, ‘worldly’, edition to the living room pillowscape, Josh will tell me I need another throw pillow like I need a hole in the head. BUT this pillowcase really just upgrades the throws you already have. So save a buck (and save your significant other the headache of one more pillow to toss on the floor!), and change up the look of a room without piling up additional bulky cushions.

Bamboo Barkeeper’s Salt Box – Keep salt, ground pepper, or dried herbs close at hand in this trendy bamboo box with swivel, magnetized closure. Cook like a pro adding the perfect dash or sprinkle of seasoning with just a pinch of your fingers. Or, sugar or salt the rim of a martini or wine glass right from the box. Low, flat, and easily stackable for storage, these boxes easily work in kitchen cabinets, or as stylish pieces left out on the counter.

W&P Craft Cocktail Mix: Old Fashioned – Admittedly, I didn’t just window shop this one, it was on a Target end cap 80% after the holidays, and I snagged it for Josh and our Old Fashioned loving friends. It was met with wild enthusiasm, and the array of spices and bitters to made crafting the perfect cocktail incredibly easy. If you’re not as lucky to score one on the Target end cap, it’s available on Amazon in 1 oz travel sizes, plus two additional bar sizes.

OPPS Mini Artificial Plants Plastic Fake Green Grass Topiary Shrubs With Gray Pot For Home Décor – Set of 3

Green Grass Topiary Shrubs: Set of Three – Here’s the long and short of it, adding some greenery to your environment can boost your mood, improve the air quality, and lighten and brighten the space. However, if you’re like me, and kill most of the house plants you bring home, there’s little that feels good about watching a potted plant shrivel and die. When we started our Airbnb rentals, we put artificial plants in each of the apartments, and renters have really enjoyed them. This trio comes in three different color/variety combinations, and is small enough to tuck into any space in any room. Brighten a bathroom counter, or add a pop of greenery to a bookshelf, and bring some spring inside year round.

Fork Knife Spoon - Kitchen Art 3 Prints - Vintage Dictionary Print 8x10 inch Home Vintage Art Abstract Prints Wall Art for Home Decor Wall Decorations For Living Room Bedroom Office Ready-to-Frame

Fork, Knife, and Spoon Vintage Dictionary Prints –  There’s a wonderful series of prints available that feature recognizable sayings and/or literary characters printed across pages of the books that made them famous. I’ve long thought that they’d excellent art for a library space or kid’s room. However, these much more utilitarian kitchen prints are a perfect neutral addition to a bright accent wall, or a small space that needs a little pop.

Alabaster Candle Holders – Elevate your candle game with these alabaster votive holders. Available in four sizes, these natural stones glow beautifully when lit from within. Jarred candles are great, but these reusable alabaster holders are a beautiful addition to a coffee table, mantle, or as a center piece in a kitchen or dining room even when unlit. When lit, they provide a homey, comforting glow, that will add coziness to any space.

3D Moon Lamp – The first Christmas Josh and I were together, he bought me a “planetarium night light.” The idea was that when the light came on, it projected the constellations through the room and onto the ceiling. I loved it…in theory. The problem as it came in about 300 pieces, including two computer boards, and more than just “some” assembly was required. We never got it fully operational. Now, there’s a better option with one single piece. The 3D moon lamp glows in various intensities or white and yellow to add a celestial aura to a bedroom or bathroom when the sun’s gone down. Remote controllable, crawl into bed or under the blankets on the couch, and turn on your own personal moon to light the night!

Essential Oil Diffuser, OTTBOX 450ml Aroma Diffuser Wood Grain Aromatherapy Diffuser with 7 Color LED Lights, Adjustable Mist Mode, Waterless Auto Shut-off Cool Mist Humidifier for Home Office Yoga

Wood Grain Essential Oil Defuser – This one is easy. Have it. Love it. Would put one in every room, or at least on each floor, of the house. The timer feature is awesome, and the light adds a nice ambience and would work as a night light in a common area or bathroom.

The Phoenix Journal – As an avid journal writer, I am unusually picky about the books that I write in. I’m also quite particular about the pen I use. It’s a strange compulsion. I’ve been working on my current journal, a 600 page behemoth for the better part of two years, but it’s almost finished, and replacing it will not come easy. I am, however, curious to try something like a Phoenix Journal, which walks the writer through monthly, weekly, and daily exercises of goal setting and gratitude in 90 day intervals. You start by setting four, twelve week goals, breaking those goals into smaller, more manageable pieces, then track those pieces through key actions, documenting successes, gratitudes, and setbacks along the way. This summer as we get ready to build the house, it might be just the thing to keep things on track, help to motivate the bigger picture, and ensure that a little fun is had along the way as well! (Special note: the Phoenix Journal is generally $40, but is running on sale for $14 right now on Amazon, making it eligible for the list!)

Magnetic planters – Having already expressed my penchant for killing house plants, it may seem odd that I would want planters; however, these magnet planters allow you to grow small shoots, with limited water, while hanging on the front of your refrigerator. I would probably remember to water things if they were right there on my fridge, and since we like to have a few magnets around on the fridge anyway, this seems like a much airier and elegant way have a few things tacked up in the kitchen than the free advertising magnets that came from the heating company we never use!

Cheers!
