Week 56: Fits and spurts!

Here’s a thing about finish work in the time of COVID-19. Not everything gets to happen on your timeline.

Last week we went crazy getting the rest of the hardwood floors in and spent the weekend sanding only to hit a road block this week when the wood filler and sealer didn’t ship. So we are in a bit of a holding pattern on the floors waiting for the materials to arrive in order to finish that stage.

In the meantime, we had to pivot to something else. So, Josh taught me how to install outlets, and he work on light fixtures and switches. Many of our light fixtures were stock items that we didn’t have to wait for, but the dining room chandelier had to be ordered…and guess what…we’re still waiting for that too.

So while good progress was made this week, that progress felt a little disjointed on days. It’s fun to see outlets and switches go in, and getting covers on those things makes it look very finished! Some days, that was the focus. Other days, we prepped bathrooms for shower tile. Josh also spent some time in the shop finishing fireplace.

Mostly, this week was a lot of partial projects in progress, and it this point I like projects with clear end points! Some of that will come with a little more time. The last light fixture, for example, should come in this week and with a few more days, the electrical should wrap up just fine. But the floors not being finished hold up some other projects like cabinets, doors, and trim, and there’s nothing to do but wait for shipping. 🙄🤦🏽‍♀️

Still, if you walk through these days, it’s definitely starting to feel like we’re in the final stretch. Just don’t ask when we’re going to move in! We’re not talking about it!
